Cycle Training - Year 6
Cycle Training (Bikeability) - Year 6
Dear Parents / Carers,
We are excited to be working with Cycle Confident to offer Schools Levels 1 & 2 Cycle Training (Bikeability). Bikeability is the national cycle training programme that helps children develop the skills and confidence to ride safely and independently. This cycle training will be provided to all children in year 6, regardless of their cycling ability, as part of the school programme. Cycle training for Year 6 will take place in the week beginning 19.10.26 and the week beginning 3.11.26 (after half-term and the school INSET day). Children will be placed in groups and will participate in cycle training during one of the weeks only. If you do not wish your child to take part, you must inform the school by Wednesday 14th October. If we do not hear from you by this date, we will assume that you consent to your child participating in Bikeability cycle training.
Training content and supervision
The training is delivered by qualified instructors and is tailored to pupils' abilities. Activities are supervised at all times and may include:
• Off-road cycling activities
• On-road cycling where appropriate and relevant to the child's ability
Children who can bring in their own bike and helmet are encouraged to do so, provided they are the right size and in a roadworthy condition. This enables them to learn on a bike they are familiar with. If this is not possible, limited bikes are available to borrow. Helmet wearing is not obligatory but if you wish your child to wear one, it must be brought in by your child. Children will participate in training without a helmet if they do not bring one. Please get in touch with Miss Murray if you have any further questions. Thank you.
