Early Years Team - Summer Term 1
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Summer Term 1, we hope you all had a wonderful Easter break. This is a busy half-term for us as we have our Reading Cafe on 21st April and after this, we will be heading to Hackney City Farm as part of our learning on Growth and Spring. We will return to school by lunch time so the rest of the day will be as normal. There is no need to send in a packed lunch however, please keep an eye on the weather and if it is wet, send children to school with raincoats and wellington boots.
Thank you to the children who completed their home projects over the Easter holidays. They have been able to share their wonderful models of farmyards and gardens. Children still have until Friday 24th April to bring these to school if they are still working on them.
Thursday 30th April is another exciting day for Nursery. We will be presenting our Class Assembly in the school hall at 9:10am and we look forward to seeing you all there!
Our Value this term is Compassion and children will be focussing on how to be kind to people and animals. As part of our Value, we will be revisiting the book 'How to be a Bucket Filler' - this helps children to remember that acts of kindness fill up our invisible buckets and unkind words can dip into this bucket (bucket dipping).
We will continue with our reading and sounds. This week we will be looking at 'e' and in upcoming weeks we will work on the sounds, 'h' / 'r' / 'j' and 'v'. We have very nearly completed all of the sounds in the alphabet! Children are starting to blend some sounds together like m-a-t and saying / writing the word. You can support your child further by sounding out and reading and writing simple words. Examples of these are: mat, cat, top, pin, bat, got, ink, sun, fun and so on. Working on these word examples is a great way for children to progress in their reading.
In Maths we will continue to use our Numberblock friends to learn about numbers and also look at shapes that we can see in our environment. Any chance you have to point out shapes and numbers around the home, garden or on a walk to the shops is a great way to reinforce these skills. You could also encourage your child to think about 'one more' and 'one less' of a given number.
Kind regards,
Miss Foster and Miss Denise and the EYFS Team
