Maths – Let’s Show Endurance!
St.Paul’s with St.Michael’s aims to teach children to master key concepts in maths. Our maths lessons are creative, incorporate fluency and build on previous learning to ensure children have a depth of knowledge, crafted by small steps, in well thought through lessons and carefully planned questions.
In EYFS and KS1 there is a large focus on number, place value and calculation skills to develop pupil’s fluency and depth of understanding of operations. These fluency skills are built upon in KS2, alongside reasoning questions which often come at the start of a maths lesson to spark curiosity and enthusiasm. As much as possible, lessons are taught in every class using a CPA approach and resources are available to support the teaching of all concepts in all classes. Maths lessons are often lively, competitive and fun! St.Paul’s with St.Michael’s encourages children to articulate their thinking clearly, using stem sentences to build a scaffold for all pupils.
On occasions, maths takes over the school for the day! These are fun days which include dressing up, playing tactical games, team problem solving and what maths looks like in the real world.
