Hello Parents and Carers,
My name is Miss Markland and I am the Year 2 class teacher. We also have Kesha, who works with us in class. It is our ultimate desire that we encourage and support our children to become the best that they can be. Year 2 is grounded on the scripture “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me” - Philippians 4 vs 13 and our class moto is “Don’t be anything less than everything you can be”.
In Year 2, we work extremely hard but have a lot of fun on a daily basis. I believe that a good parent and teacher partnership is a contributing factor to a child’s success, so please support your child with their daily reading and homework.
Monday: Children bring in their signed reading record and PE kit
Tuesday: Children bring in their signed reading record and school bag
Wednesday: Children bring in their signed reading record, completed homework and PE kit.
Thursday: Children bring in their signed reading record and school bag
Friday: Children bring in their signed reading record and school bag. On Fridays we have our spelling test and maths test.
Your child should be reading for 20 minutes each night. They can read to themselves and then tell you about the book or they can read with you and discuss the story as they are going along. We also have longer story books for the children to read independently and these are changed as needed.
Termly Topics: Every term, we quick start our learning of our new topic with a creative homework task. Please support your child with these exciting tasks.
Autumn 1: Oceans and Continents
Autumn 2: Growth & significant people: Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale
Spring 1: Amazing Africa and Cool Canada
Spring 2: The Great Fire of London
Summer 1: Hackney
Summer 2: The Natural World
