Welcome to Year 2
Hello Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Year 2! We are really looking forward to this academic year. My name is Miss Markland and I am the Year 2 class teacher. We also have Kesha, Flo and Semra who support us in the classroom. It is our ultimate desire that we encourage and support our children to become the best that we can be. Year 2 is grounded on the scripture; 'I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me' - Philippians 4:13. Our class motto is 'Don't be anything less than everything you can be'.
In Year 2, we work extremely hard but have a lot of fun on a daily basis. I believe that a good parent and teacher partnership is a contributing factor to a child's success, so please support your child with their daily reading and homework.
PE days are on Mondays and Fridays. Please ensure your child comes prepared for these days by bringing a bag with their PE kit to school (white t-shirt, black shorts and black trainers). School uniform should be worn to arrive at school on these days.
Book Bags / Reading
Please ensure that your child brings their book bag and reading record on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On these days we will be changing books, recording and asking children to summarise what they have read on these days. Please read with your child daily for at least 15 minutes. Daily reading will develop your child's love of reading as well as their reading and writing skills.
You child has been given a 'Mathletics' log on. Please encourage and support your child to logon as certificates will be given out during Good Work assembly on Fridays. Please let me know if you have any difficulties logging on.
Each week, your child will be given weekly spellings and a maths 'learn it' piece of homework. Every Friday, we will have a spelling test and maths 'learn it' test. Each Friday, homework will be uploaded to Google Classroom and your child is expected to submit this work by the following Wednesday. We have now sent out new Google Classroom invites, so please accept our invitation in order to access the homework each week.
Children should bring a water bottle to school each day.
Autumn 1 - 'Holidays, Continents and Oceans'
In Literacy this term we will be reading a book about Africa
Friday 8th October - African Day
To support and consolidate our learning about the continent Africa, we would like your child to dress up in African attire. They can dress in relation to any African country.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to make an appointment to meet with me. Kind regards,
