Year 2 Class Page - Summer Term 1

Welcome to our Class Page!  Our topic for Summer Term 1 will be weather patterns where children will explore different types of weather and begin to understand how and why weather changes.  In RE, we will be learning about the different ways in which Muslims show their commitment to God (Allah).

This term, our Literacy focus will explore different stories by the same author, enabling children to compare texts and identify the genres these texts belong to.  Children will also develop their understanding of progressive verb forms in both past and present tense.  Through a range of engaging activities which will include role-play, creative writing and books reviews, children will be encouraged to express their ideas confidently and creatively.

In Maths, children will be looking at time and measurement using a range of mathematical tools to support their learning.  This will include using clocks and measuring using different units as well as developing their reasoning skills to solve problems.

During Science lessons, we will be learning about plants by observing them closely using simple equipment and exploring how bulbs grow to mature plants.  Children will begin to learn how to ask their own scientific questions and carry out simple investigations as well as gathering and recording data to understand what plants need to grow and survive. 

In PSHCE, children will explore economic wellbeing, learning where money comes from and the different types of jobs people do.  Children will also begin to understand how money can be used for different purposes.
