Art

At Saint Paul’s with Saint Michael’s we value art, and our children love to think creatively and explore different artists and methods.  Our arts curriculum allows children to use their creative skills to enhance their learning in a range of subject areas as well as develop their own artistic skills through exploration of colour, texture, pattern and the use of different materials.  Our children have a love of learning in art and we strive to encourage and nurture this through pupil voice and our very own school art council!  The children learn about a range of artists who have influenced the world we live in, and we encourage our children to learn from these artists while developing their own unique artistic flair.  Our arts curriculum aims to ensure the progression of artistic skills whilst developing children’s knowledge and confidence in the arts.  Every half term, we start off with a whole day devoted to the arts, where children are introduced to our artist study of the half term and begin art work to celebrate new topics.  Every summer we proudly showcase art work completed throughout the year in our annual art exhibition, where we love to share and celebrate our creations with parents and the wider community. We are proud of the rich diversity of our school which shines through in our vibrant art work.

Music

At S.P.S.M we know that music enriches our lives in so many different ways and we encourage our children to be expressive and creative through music.  Our teachers use the Charanga music scheme to progress and develop musical skills. Every child plays an instrument at our school, ranging from glockenspiels to African drums!  We learn about lots of different musical genres and play a variety of musical pieces, reading notation and learning new notes as our skills progress each year.  Every class has a performance with their song for each half term and we have regular key-stage and whole school performances for Black History Month, Mother’s day and Father’s Day, Christmas, Harvest and more!  We adore sharing our love of music with parents and the community.  We even have an annual SPSM talent show which the children love to perform in!  The school offers piano and guitar lessons and we also have Rocksteady sessions at the school where children form and play in their very own band.  Music enriches and enhances all subject areas and we want our children to have a love of music as they journey through our school and through life.
