Early Years Team Reception - Autumn Term 1, 2026.

Welcome to Reception.

Our topic this term is 'Myself' and we will be talking about ourselves, our families, where we live and people around us.  Please talk to your children about your family members and other important people in their lives.  Also, please bring in a family picture for your child to share with the class.  You can send these digitally via the school admin email.

Please encourage your child to develop a love of reading by sharing books together each day.  This makes for a great part of a bedtime routine.  You can talk about the stories you read and ask your child to make predictions about what might happen next or look for clues in the pictures.  This is an excellent opportunity to develop listening, attention and speaking skills.

Reception is an important year for children in terms of them gaining more independence, please support your children to try things for themselves.  For instance, getting dressed and undressed, putting on or taking off their coats and shoes.

It is important that children come to school dressed in the correct uniform and that all belongings have names labelled.   Children will need a spare set of clothes that they can keep in school in case of accidents.

Please return book bags every Tuesday and Friday so that books can be changed.  PE will take place every Friday and children will need to bring their PE kit which consists of black bottoms, a white t-shirt and black trainers.  All children are expected to complete their homework on a weekly basis.  Homework is given on a Friday and needs to be returned by the following Friday.  Your child will be given a 'Mathletics' and 'Reading Eggs' logon and password (you will find these in reading record logs).  Certificates for achievement are awarded in our awards assembly each Friday.

Show and tell - your child will be learning a new sound each week.  Please support your child by bringing an object or picture relating to the sound of the week.  The sound we are working on will be displayed on the classroom door.
