Reception - Early Years Team
Early Years Team - Summer Term 1
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you all had a lovely half-term break. Our value this term is Compassion. The Bible verse Reception are learning is:
Psalm 103:8 - 'The Lord is full of compassion'.
Our new topic this term is 'Stories'. We will be reading lots of traditional tales, orally retelling and writing our own stories using our book focus for the week. This is a great opportunity for you and your child to visit your local library and take out some of the classic stories such as, 'Whatever Next?', 'The Three Little Pigs', 'Not Now Bernard', 'The Rainbow Fish' and 'Little Red Riding Hood'. The more these stories are read, the more children will become familiar with them.
Class fund - The class fund will continue this half-term, there are six weeks before the half-term holiday, so if you would like to pay in full, this will cost £12, alternatively, please provide £2 per week for your child. This fund helps us to buy resources for the children to use in school. We will be cooking and taking part in more visits and any money that is left over will go towards our end of year trip.
PE will continue to be on Friday afternoon. Please make sure your child comes to school with the appropriate clothing. Children need to bring black jogging bottoms or leggings, a white t-shirt and trainers (if your child wears tights, please also make sure they have socks in their bag).
Reading - Please continue to read each day with your child and support them with their weekly homework. Learning 'Red Words' is of high importance, please ensure your child is practicing these words.
Homework is set each Friday and needs to be completed and returned by the following Friday. Book bags are changed every Monday and Friday so it is important that your child brings their book bag to school on these days. Should a book bag be lost, it is important that your provide your child with a replacement as soon as possible. Also, please remember that your child has access to 'Reading Eggs' and 'Mathletics'. Please encourage your child to access these wonderful resources, certificates are given out each week for participation!
Important Dates:
- Reception Class Assembly - Thursday 7th May, 9:10am
- National Numeracy Day (dress up as a number or something to do with Maths or a Mathematically inspired job) - Wednesday 20th May
Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak with one of the EYFS team. Kind regards,
