Year 2 Class Page - Autumn Term 1, 2025

Welcome to our Class Page!  Our topic for Autumn 1 is 'Holidays' and our current class book is 'Grace and Family'.  Throughout this half-term, children will develop their learning by exploring a range of genres.  They will be encouraged to use ambitious vocabulary and apply a wide range of punctuation accurately.  This will strengthen the quality of their writing.  In Science, our focus will be on electricity.  Children will learn about different sources of electricity and begin to understand how it is used each day in our lives.  They will also be exploring simple circuits and experimenting with different components to investigate how electricity flows and what happens when circuits are altered.

During Maths, we will be extending the children's knowledge of number up to 100.  Children will be adding and subtracting using both mental strategies and using practical manipulatives.  Alongside this, we will be encouraging children to apply reasoning skills to solve increasingly complex mathematical problems independently and with confidence.

In Geography, our learning will focus on Oceans and Continents.  Children will develop their knowledge of the world by identifying and naming the Continents and Oceans on a world map.  They will also learn to use geographical language to describe locations, including the use of the four compass points (North, East, South and West) to describe location.
