Year 2

Welcome to the Year 2 class page

Year 2 Class Page - Autumn Term 2, 2025

Welcome to our Class Page!  Our topic for Autumn 2 is Growth and our core class text is 'The Emperor's Egg'.  Through this book, children will explore how animals, including humans, grow and survive within different environments.  In Science, children will learn to describe and compare the life cycles of a range of animals, including humans, developing their understanding of how living things change over time.

In Mathematics, we will continue to build fluency and confidence in addition and subtraction within 100.  Children will use a range of representations and strategies such as the column method, partitioning, the bar method and part-part-whole  to deepen understanding.  There will be a strong focus on developing reasoning and problem-solving skills.  Children will also be introduced to 2D and 3D shapes, exploring their properties using precise mathematical vocabulary including the terms 'sides', 'vertices', 'edges' and 'dimensions'.

In History, our focus will be on significant individuals from the past.  Children will learn to identify and discuss their achievements, sequence key events on a timeline and use both primary and secondary sources to create factual profiles and timelines about these key figures.  In PSHE, children will be learning about health and wellbeing, focusing on recognising different feelings and discussing what makes them feel good as well as practicing self-care.  They will also develop an understanding of why looking after their body and mind is important for overall wellbeing.

Across all curriculum areas, children will be encouraged to make connections in their learning, develop resilience and build confidence in sharing their ideas both verbally and in writing.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to arrange a meeting with one of our team.  Best wishes,

The Year 2 Team

If you would like more information about the curriculum SPSM follows, please ask your child's class teacher.  Thank you.
