Year 2

Welcome to the Year 2 class page

Year 2 Class Page - Autumn Term 1, 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Year 2!  We are very excited about the start of the new school year and we are looking forward to working with you to achieve the best that we can.  This half-term our topics are:

Holidays - Oceans and Continents in Geography and Electricity in Science.  The books we will be reading in class are 'Amazing Grace', 'Grace and Family' and 'Gregory Cool'.  We will occasionally send home projects based on these areas of learning so please look out for these!  We will be focussing heavily on number work and place value during Maths and we will be looking at narrative writing and sentence structure in Literacy.  There will be a BIG push on handwriting and spellings for the whole class.

We are continuing our hard work and dedication towards the Rights of the Child and we are aiming for a GOLD award this year!  Please discuss the different rights (these can be found on the school website) with your child.  We have a particular focus on articles 5, 6, 23 and 29 this half-term.

Homework will be set on Friday with the expectation that it is returned by the following Wednesday or Thursday.  All children will be expected to complete homework - if you encounter any problems, please speak to a member of the Year 2 Team.  Spelling tests and Maths fluency tests will take place on Friday morning.

The children have 'Reading Eggs' and 'Mathletics' logons.  Children should be spending around 15 - 20 minutes daily on each of these programmes.  Reading Records should be filled in on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and brought in on these days along with children's book bags and reading books.

School uniform (red school jumper, grey trousers / skirts, red checked dresses or grey shorts red / white t-shirts in the Summer) should be worn each day including BLACK shoes or trainers.  No tracksuit bottoms or leggings are allowed.

Our PE days are Wednesday (pm) and Thursday (am).  The PE kit (black bottoms and plain white t-shirt) should be brought to school in a bag ready to change in to.  Children should NOT be wearing their PE kits under their school uniforms.  On Thursday morning, children can come to school in their PE kits with their school uniform in a bag.

We have lots of exciting trips planned and these dates are currently being finalised.  Please keep checking the school website calendar for further information.  Our first Reading Cafe is on 6th October in the school hall.  It is World Afro Day on 15th September and we have a Parent / Carer meeting (all children's Parents / Carers to attend) in the Year 2 classroom at 3:30pm on 16th September.  I look forward to meeting you all then.

School starts promptly at 9am.  Please support your child with arriving to school on time and being ready to learn.  This is a great way to ensure that we have a smooth and productive day.  If you have any questions regarding your child's learning or welfare, please make an appointment to see one of us.  Thank you,

The Year 2 Teaching Team

Miss Komur, Miss Rahana and Miss Emma
