Welcome to the Year 2 class page
Year 2 Class Page - Spring Term 1, 2026
Welcome to our Class Page! Our topic for Spring 1 is Place Knowledge, supported by our class book, 'Anna Hibiscus'. This builds on from learning from the Autumn Term and gives children the opportunity to explore and compare different places around the world. Pupils will make links between countries such as Nigeria, Canada and England, developing their understanding of similarities and differences between places.
In Science, children will be learning about sound. They will explore how sound travels, understand that sound can move through different materials and learn how vibrations move to our ears, helping us to hear.
In Mathematics, children will focus on multiplicatioin and division within 100. They will use a range of representations, including making equal groups through sharing and grouping, bar models and part-whole models. Children will also develop their reasoning and problem-solving skills, as well as their understanding of the relationship between factors and products.
As part of our Geography learning, children will explore different localities and develop their ability to ask geographical questions and use key geographical vocabulary to describe places. They will also learn to identify human and physical features of places and make simple comparisons between different locations.
Across all curriculum areas, children will be encouraged to make connections in their learning, develop resilience and build confidence in sharing their ideas both verbally and in writing. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to arrange a meeting with one of our team. Best wishes,
The Year 2 Team
