Teaching and Learning
At St Paul’s with St Michael’s we follow a broad and balanced curriculum in line with the National guidelilnes. Children are given opportunities to work in groups, individually, and as a whole class or teams of classes. The QCA schemes of work have been implemented from September 2000 to aid teachers in their delivery of a cohesive programme of study. We follow the National strategies for Literacy and Numeracy.
Evaluation
All staff evaluate the work that is taking place in their classrooms. This means that when planning future activities they can ensure that there will be both continuity and progression in each child’s learning and educational development.
Assessment
The children’s work is monitored and recorded so that there is evidence of the levels reached in the Attainment targets as set out in the National Curriculum. Regular monitoring also helps determine which areas of work still need to be covered. Assessment of children’s learning is made twice per term. Children are assesed through the QCA tests in years 3,4, and 5. In line with the National Curriculum, children will do the assessment tasks (S.A.T.S.) at the end of Key Stages 1 and 2, i.e. in Years 2 and 6. Children entering Reception class are assessed in the first seven weeks by the Class Teacher, using the accredited Foundation Stage Profile. There are opportunities each term to discuss children’s progress with the Class Teacher. All our topics are planned out on our Curriculum Map. Inclusion is at the heart of our ethos and we ensure that all children meet their full potential. Our report will attest to the hard work and commitment of all our staff in providing a safe and happy environment for our young learners.
